JPEG Saver 4.10.1
Published
I was expecting a lot of bug reports after the big changes that I made in version 4.10. There really haven't been many, so version 4.10.1 fixes a couple of things and adds a few extra bits and pieces.
The one big bug that was reported to me was also the one that I already knew about: version 4.10 doesn't skip over bad images, displaying an error message instead. I had left the bad image skipping out of that version because the way that it worked in version 4.9 would have had problems with the more multi-threaded environment in version 4.10. For version 4.10.1 I have added bad image skipping back in using a different method.
The first change you are likely to notice in the new version comes when you open up the configuration dialog. All the dialogs open in the middle of the screen now, to prevent them ending up behind the taskbar when it has been moved to the top or side of the screen. After years of them opening in the top-left, I'm still getting used to this change.
There is a new checkbox in the interactive options for using just the cursor keys for navigation - all other keys (and the mouse) will make JPEG Saver exit. This is for people who want to be able to move through the list of images, but who also need to close the screen saver quickly without reaching for the Escape key.
The items tab now supports renaming the items to make it easier to tell
multiple items of the same type apart. As an example, you could have an image
info item called “Exif details” for displaying camera information
and another called “File details” for the file name, folder,
etc. The column positions from the items list (and the styles list) are now
stored in the config file for a less annoying more ergonomic
user experience too.
I've added two new transitions in this version, “Drop In” and “Drop Out”. Since JPEG Saver already has a “Tune In” transition, all it needs now is a “Turn On” for the full Timothy Leary set.
I've gone through all the transitions in this version to make sure that they clear the screen properly. Depending on your graphics card, you might have seen a pixel-width line of junk at the edge of the screen at times, and this change should hopefully fix that.
Displaying the transition name in a process info item could cause a crash in version 4.10, so that is fixed in the new version. The play and pause icons could have shown up on the wrong screen under some circumstances, which is now fixed, and I've also added some validation to the command-line “/u” switch to prevent setting the config file to something that doesn't exist.
The installer for the updated version is available from the downloads page.
