JPEG Saver 4.18.1
Published
Version 4.18.1 of JPEG Saver is a quick bugfix release, fixing a quiet crash that happens when loading the tags/keywords from some images. It might not look much like a crash because JPEG Saver has a built-in crash handler, but if JPEG Saver is exiting seemingly at random, then that is likely to be a crash.
Of course, JPEG Saver is primarily a screen saver and so it doesn't try to keep running when other programs want to get your attention. But if you think JPEG Saver is going away when it clearly shouldn't, please get in touch and I'll see if it is something that needs fixing.
I've used this update to upgrade a couple of the libraries that JPEG Saver uses, but apart from that the only other change is switching on the most basic DPI awareness setting. Proper DPI awareness is something I want to get working in JPEG Saver, so if you have any problems with scaling or any more general suggestions, I'd be pleased to hear from you.
While I'm talking about things I want to do, it might be a good idea to
mention my to-do list. There are a lot of things on the list, which tends to
get longer instead of shorter. Many of the things on the list are internal
changes that won't really interest anyone (“replace NULL
with nullptr
where applicable” is a good example) but there
are quite a few things that I would like to say I am planning to do. The main
reason I don't say what I have planned is that I don't want to disappoint anyone
if I don't get these things done for whatever reason.
So just for a break from the norm, here are a few things from the to-do list that may or may not ever happen:
- Drag and drop filters
- Config file presets
- More transitions
- Positioning large images by content
- Item list presets
- Zoom and pan controls
- Video support
- Split screen options
- Multi-monitor colour management
- User-defined keyboard shortcuts
- Global image skip list
- More background types
- GPS locations
- Folder sets
- Transitions on multiple screens
Some of these are very likely (“more transitions” is almost certain) and some are less likely. I really wanted to display GPS locations, but I haven't found a way to do it that doesn't involve paying someone for geolocation services. It's still on the to-do list though, because maybe there will be a free geolocation service available one day.
