Brewdog Hazy Jane Guava

The seventh Brewdog beer of Christmas is this one, and the name worries me. It sounds fruity.

Details

From the website:

New England decamps to the tropics for a juicy makeover that turns the exotic fruits up to 11 for this hazy IPA with a tropical twist. Guava leads the way with notes of pineapple, mango and stone-fruit following on. Brewed with oats and wheat and left unfiltered for a fruity smooth journey.

Expectations

I tried Hazy Jane recently and it was fine. I've never eaten guava, but I'm pretty sure it is a fruit. I'm hoping the taste is subtle in this one.

Experience

It smells really sweet and fruity, a bit like pineapple and a bit like orange. It is quite a cloudy yellow colour, a bit bubbly and with quite a decent head on it that went away quickly.

The taste is quite dry and bitter and reminds me of cider. It's not sweet though and there isn't a strong fruit taste at all. Like the plain Hazy Jane, the taste builds as I drink it, but it doesn't get too fruity.

I actually sat here trying to figure out if I like it or not. In the end the answer is no, I don't. The acidity made my mouth feel dry and left me wanting to drink something else. Maybe that's the point.

Verdict

2/5 : Not too bad, not great either. I don't think I would ever choose to drink it.
