Brewgooder Filla
I think it might have been the design of the can that attracted me to this one. The description as a "Tropical haze" IPA also played a part, as I didn't really know what to expect from it.
Details
- Tropical haze IPA, 4.6% ABV
- 330ml can
From the website:
We’ve brewed a crushable Tropical Haze IPA, called FILLA, bursting with mango and pineapple notes.
There is actually quite a bit on the website about this beer, but it is mostly about why they brewed it and not really about the beer itself.
Expectations
I guess this is going to be a fruity IPA, and since I'm in the mood for something light and refreshing right now it seems like a good fit. The can is certainly giving me tropical fruit indications, so the fruitiness starts early.
Experience
Argh! Foam started appearing from the can as soon as I opened it. I slowly poured it into my glass and it settled down into something less volatile. I did get a good waft of the aroma while I poured it, and the tropical fruit smell was definitely there.
The beer is an orangy-amber colour, with a head that gradually dissipates, and it smells like some kind of recognisable fruit. Probably mango. It's quite a cloudy beer, but it didn't start out like that when I was pouring it so I think I may have tipped in some sediment from the bottom of the can. Maybe that's where the "haze" in the description comes from.
The taste is fruity, bitter and sweet. It doesn't really give me any beer vibes. In fact the taste is quite confusing - is it beer, or has someone added a bit of alcohol to tropical fruit squash?
It's drinkable, though not something I would choose to drink regularly.
Verdict
2/5 : Fruity beer lovers would probably love this fruity beer, but it doesn't work for me.
