Greene King East Coast IPA
This is another of those beers that I know I have drunk before but have no recollection of it. The blurb mentions American hops, though I have no idea if the "East Coast" in its name refers to the American or English east coast. Maybe both?
Details
- IPA 4% ABV
- 440ml can
From the website:
Crafted using only the finest American hops, this 4% fusion ale pairs the punchy citrus aroma of American style IPAs with the easy-drinking flavour of the finest English pale ale.
Cold, gold and beautifully bold, East Coast IPA is a triple-hopped celebration of all that is good about our two great brewing nations.
Tasting notes:
Amarillo in the copper and as a late hop gives lots of citrus fruits, floral and spicy notes, Centennial, Citra and Galaxy add more citrus and soft tropical fruit and fresh dry hop character. Crisp and bold bitterness adds to the refreshment. Pale malt gives a clean easy drinking body.
Expectations
Another IPA, so I expect something quite light and with a bit of citrus taste. I've had it before, but that means nothing.
Experience
It's a nice golden colour, with lots of fizz and a thick head on top. There is a pleasant yeasty, lemony smell.
The taste is slightly bitter, slightly sweet, though there is very little citrus in it - I probably got more of that from the initial smell than from tasting it.
As I work my way down the glass the citrus effect does grow somewhat, though not enough to become off-putting. I enjoyed this one.
Verdict
4/5 : A nice IPA with a bit of citrus taste, but not too much.
