Greene King Abbot Ale
It's beers like this one that are the reason I'm doing these reviews now. I've drunk it before many times, but I just don't remember anything about it.
Details
- Ale 5% ABV
- 500ml can
From the website:
Warming, Malty and Fruity. Pale and amber malts contribute to a mouth filling and satisfying 'Horlicks' and biscuity maltiness. Challenger and First Gold give a base note of herbal hop and Fuggle as a late hop contributes the main fragrant fruity and floral and spicy notes. Fermented slowly to give just enough fruity esters Abbot Ale provides a complex, satisfying and warming experience.
Expectations
I've had this before, but that doesn't mean much because I can't remember anything about it. I would hopefully remember something if I didn't like it much though, so I'm looking forward to a decent drink.
Experience
There is a bit of a beery, malty smell. The ale is a reddish amber and with a nice thick foamy head on it. It looks really good.
The taste is bitter and slightly sweet. It's quite a strong taste, which I like. I don't get anything fruity or floral from it, but I can just about go along with "biscuity".
The taste is strong enough that it hangs around in my mouth, so I don't feel the need to keep sipping at it.
Verdict
4/5 : I like this - it has a proper, strong beer taste.
