Greene King IPA
I'm revisiting a beer I have drunk plenty of times before. No, I can't remember anything about it.
Details
- IPA 3.4% ABV
- 500ml can
From the website:
Fresh dry hop, herbal character is provided by the mix of challenger and first gold hops. The use of crystal malt in the grist gives a satisfying toffee/caramel note and the addition of a little black malt adds just enough astringency to give a clean dry finish.
There is a lot more text than that, including a paragraph about why the ABV dropped from 3.6% to 3.4%, so I've just included the tasting notes for brevity.
Expectations
This is one I have drunk quite a few times, though not in the last year or so. I don't have any recollection of what it is like, but it can't be bad or I wouldn't have drunk so much of it.
It's an IPA though, so I'm expecting something refreshing, maybe with some kind of fruity or sweet tang to it.
Experience
It's darker than I expected, quite a reddish amber colour, with lots of small bubbles rising to the top. The head is not too thick, but quite stable. There is very little smell - I even tried sniffing the emptied can but got nothing.
The taste is good, leaving a bitter and malty aftertaste on my tongue. I don't get any fruity impressions from it, which is probably why I like it so much.
Verdict
4/5 : I like it, and I would be quite happy to drink it again.
