Hook Norton Hooky
I'm onto the third Hook Norton beer that I have decided to sample. I don't expect this one to be as good as the Old Hooky I tried last time, but I still have high hopes for it.
Details
- Best bitter, 3.4% ABV
- 500ml bottle
From the website:
A beautifully balanced best bitter, enticing you in with its hoppy aroma and malty flavours. The classic session beer, eminently drinkable.
Expectations
The last Hook Norton beer I tried was really nice, so I have a good feeling about this one. A decent bitter would go down well now.
Experience
It smells yeasty, a proper beer smell. Even after some quite strong sniffing I failed to find the hoppy aroma that the blurb mentions, but it smells good anyway.
There's not much head on top of the beer, but plenty of bubbles rising through it. The colour is a golden yellow.
The taste is bitter, as expected. A malty taste gradually builds up after a few sips. It's very pleasant, and I can see why they call it a session beer. I can also see myself drinking more of it.
To sum up, I enjoyed this beer but the "hoppy" bit in the blurb was bugging me all the way down. I'm not a huge hops fan so I didn't actually miss it, but was it there and my nose didn't detect it, or has it dissipated while the beer has been sitting in the bottle? Maybe I'll have to buy some more and go looking for it.
Verdict
4/5 : A nice, tasty bitter. I would definitely drink this again.
