Hook Norton Hooky Gold
Hook Norton Brewery is new to me, and I had to Google where Hook Norton is because I had no clue. It's in Oxfordshire.
Details
- Golden ale, 4.1% ABV
- 500ml bottle
From the website:
An excellent thirst quencher golden ale, the ideal companion for summer days and bank holiday beers. Enjoy zesty refreshing citrus flavours topped off with a touch of spice.
Expectations
It's not a bank holiday today, but it has been another hot summer day. I need something refreshing and this looks good.
Experience
The colour is exactly what I was expecting - golden. There's not much head on top, possibly because this has been in the bottom of the fridge where it is really cold. I see plenty of bubbles rising through the beer though.
The smell is a bit sweet, a fruity sort of sweetness, but not any specific sweet thing I can put a name to.
The taste of this beer is mildly bitter, and it gives me a citrus feeling without a strong citrus taste to go with it. It's like someone is slicing a lemon right behind me while I drink my beer. There is some citrusy aftertaste, but it is quite mild.
The word that comes to mind after drinking this is "satisfying". It gave me just what I needed and left me feeling refreshed.
Verdict
4/5 : Refreshing, decent beer with subtle flavours.
