Kopparberg Mixed Fruit Cider

I like cider, but tend to stick to the less sweet brands. But I was intrigued by the thought of mixed fruit cider and decided to give this one a go.

Details

From the website:

Bursting with blackcurrants and raspberries, Kopparberg Mixed Fruit spoils you. Rich and indulgent with an effervescent energy, it’s best served cold over mountains of ice.

Expectations

I'm not sure if I've had Kopparberg before, but I'm sure I've never had it with mixed fruit in. I'm expecting it to be quite sweet and fruity and hopefully quite refreshing.

Experience

It's pink, fizzy and it smells like fruit. Actually it smells a lot like Ribena, which is unsurprising since that is a blackcurrant drink too.

It doesn't taste anywhere near as strong as it smells. It doesn't even taste like an alcoholic drink either, though it is quite refreshing. I can imagine drinking far too many of these far too easily on a hot day.

I have mixed feelings about this one to go with the mixed fruit. It seems to me like the opposite of an alcohol-free beer, with the taste of a soft drink but an alcohol content of 4%. If I had just been handed a glass of this without seeing the bottle I would never have guessed it was cider.

Verdict

3/5 : Quite pleasant, though it doesn't taste like booze at all.
