Kronenbourg 1664 Bière

I've had this before, but yet again I can remember absolutely nothing about it. I know it's a lager, but that's as far as it goes.

Details

From the website:

The first batch was brewed in a single barrel by Jerome Hatt in 1664. Having just earned his Master Brewer's diploma, he set up his brewery in the center of Strasbourg, a stone's throw from the local cathedral.

1664 Lager is a beautifully crafted and supremely sippable premium lager, with a citrus aroma and notes of apricot. French Strisselspalt hops, 'the caviar of hops' deliver a delicate balance of aroma and bitterness.

Expectations

I know I've tried this before, and it's a lager so I'm not expecting anything too special. My previous experience hasn't left any impression on me though, so I'm just hoping for something light and refreshing.

Experience

It's a very golden yellow colour, with quite a thick, foamy head on top. The beer is in a 568ml can, so it completely filled my pint glass and I had to wait for the foam to settle a bit before I could pour it all in.

The smell is a bit yeasty, though it's not a strong smell at all. I was expecting something hoppy from the description, but I couldn't detect anything like that.

The taste is quite interesting, and it does seem vaguely fruity to me. I don't know if I would say it was apricot if I hadn't read the blurb, but it does give me a sensation something like that. It also reminds me of some acrylic model paint I had a long time ago, though I didn't drink any of that and my brain is probably getting taste and smell mixed up or something.

Paint memories aside, the beer is slightly bitter and sweet, the aftertaste is mild and a touch acidic, and on the whole it is really quite pleasant to drink.

Verdict

4/5 : It's another lager, but this time it's a good one. I really enjoyed it.
