Magic Rock Saucery IPA
Another IPA this time, a new one to me and it's in the kind of can that makes me think it might be a bit weird.
Details
- Session IPA, 3.9% ABV
- 330ml can
From the website:
A pale and fruity session IPA, low in strength but high in flavour! Hopped with Citra and Ekuanot, and packed full of tropical fruit and citrus aromas. Full-favoured, with notes of passionfruit and mango; followed by a well balanced, slightly bitter finish on the tongue; making this a supernatural session beer to return to again and again.
Expectations
It's an IPA, so I'm expecting something refreshing and probably a bit fruity. The can design is a bit funky, but that doesn't mean much.
Experience
On opening the can I got a blast of tropical fruit aroma. Pineapple or grapefruit maybe. It's very pale and a bit cloudy, and looks to me like a wheat beer.
The head is not very thick but quite stable and there are a lot of tiny bubbles rising through the beer. Taking a good sniff from the glass it is a bit less tropical fruit and more citrus than my initial snort.
The taste is very bitter and astringent. There is a tangy aftertaste, and it feels stronger than the 3.9% ABV. It gives me an odd sensation like I've just eaten some fruit and washed it down with aftershave.
By the bottom of the glass I had had enough. The bitter dryness was too much for me.
Verdict
2/5 : An interesting taste, but not something I would want to drink again.
