Robinsons Iron Maiden Trooper IPA
Iron Maiden and beer - I'm in. The song "The Trooper" is about The Charge of the Light Brigade, so this beer presumably tastes of dead horse and gunpowder.
Details
- IPA, 4.3% ABV
- 500ml bottle
From the website:
This beer, which references the American IPA revolution with its choice of hops, was created by Bruce Dickinson and Robinsons Head Brewer Martyn Weeks. A perfect sessionable ale designed to be to enjoyed no matter what time of year.
Expectations
I think I might have had this before, but if I did then I don't remember anything at all about it.
On the other hand I don't think the Iron Maiden themed beer I drank before was an IPA, but this one is. I don't mind that though, it's another hot day and I'm in need of some refreshment.
Experience
It smells quite sweet, and it's a vague fruity sweetness. The colour is pale yellow, and there's not much head on it. There are plenty of bubbles rinsing through the beer though.
The taste is bitter and hoppy. There is a very slight citrus taste in it, and closer to lemon or lime than grapefruit or orange.
I'm not sure "sessionable" is a real word, but I suppose it fits. I could drink a lot of this, but for now I'm quite happy just sipping slowly on the contents of one bottle.
Verdict
4/5 : Tasty. I needed something refreshing and this delivered.
