Ruddles Best
You never see beers called "Second Best" or "Runner-Up" do you? Anyway, this is another one I am pretty sure I have drunk before and forgotten all about.
Details
- Country ale 3.4% ABV
- 500ml bottle
From the website:
Tropical and berry fruits and some lemon citrus from the mix of hops is lifted by the light carbonation. Warming toffee/caramel from the crystal malt is balanced by the crisp bitterness
Expectations
I've had this before, and I have a feeling that I like it. I'm expecting a proper, deep bitter taste, and nothing like the fruit cocktail suggested by the blurb.
Experience
It's a reddish-brown colour, with a decent foamy head and a slightly sweet hoppy smell. It is quite bubbly, maybe more than I expected.
The first sip is bitter and sweet, and the aftertaste is quite pleasant. I don't get any impression of berries or tropical fruits, or even anything citrus-like.
That's not a complaint though - the beer went down smoothly, leaving me with a warm, satisfied feeling and I would happily have another.
Verdict
4/5 : A tasty bitter, something to drink slowly and savour.
