Timothy Taylor's Landlord

I think I might have had this before. Or the alliterated name might be getting me confused with Samuel Smith. Not that it matters, I don't remember anything about whatever it was I had before.

Details

From the website:

The drinkers’ favourite, a classic pale ale with a complex citrus and hoppy aroma.

It has won more awards than any other beer, winning both CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain and the Brewing Industry Awards Gold Medal four times.

Expectations

It's been as hot as hell today, this beer has been in the fridge and I just need something to cool me down. Pale ale sounds ideal.

Experience

It's amber in colour, with about 6mm of head and quite a bit of fizz. There's not much smell, but maybe a bit of sweetness coming through.

The bottle says this beer is best served between 11°C and 13°C, so it is probably a few degrees below the ideal temperature. It won't take long to warm up today though.

The taste is slightly bitter. I don't taste anything hoppy, or anything very strong at all. It might be a little bit malty.

It's refreshing and I have nothing to complain about, but all the awards on the bottle made me think it might be a bit more than what it actually is.

Verdict

3/5 : Not very exciting, but it cooled me down on a hot day.
